Man könnte aber auch ankündigen: “Und die, deren Ehe mit einer Wahrscheinlichkeit innerhalb den nächsten 24 Monaten in die Brüche gehen wird, ist….”
Betrachtet man die Liste der Oscar-Gewinnerinnen für die beste weibliche Hauptrolle im Rückblick bis 1990, kann man festhalten, dass es hier zu einer erheblich hohen Anzahl an Trennungen und Scheidungen gekommen ist.
Beginnen wir mit Emma Thompson, die 1993 ihren Oscar für ihre Rolle in “Wiedersehen in Howard’s End” entgegennahm. Die Trennung von Ehemann Kenneth Brannagh erfolgte in 1995. Helen Hunt gewann den Oscar 1998 für “Besser geht’s nicht”; die Trennung von Hank Azaria, der Original-Stimme von Bart Simpson, nur 17 Monate später in 2000. Gwyneth Paltrow, ausgezeichnet in 2000 für “Shakespeare in love” – Trennung von Ben Affleck im gleichen Jahr. Hilary Swank wurde 2001 mit ihrem ersten Oscar für “Boys don’t cry” ausgezeichnet, 2005 dann für “Million Dollar Baby” – die Scheidung von Ehemann Chad Lowe wurde in 2006 vollzogen. Julia Roberts erhielt den Oscar 2001 für ihre Rolle in “Erin Brockovich”, die Trennung von ihrem Lebensgefährten Benjamin Bratt gleich in einem Abwasch noch im selben Jahr. Halle Berry’s großartige schauspielerische Leistung (“Monster’s Ball”)wurde mit dem höchsten aller Preise in 2002 honoriert – sie wurde in 2003 von Eric Benet geschieden. Charlize Theron’s Beziehung zu Stuart Townsend hielt nach ihrem Oscar in 2004 für “Monster” noch bis 2010 und ist damit ein Outperformer. Der Oscar für “Walk the Line” in 2006 läutete hingegen auch das Ende von Reese Witherspoon’s Ehe mit Ryan Philippe ein, die in 2007 getrennte Wege gingen. Kate Winslet folgte dieser Tradition in 2009 (“Der Vorleser”) und beendete ihre Ehe im gegenseitigen Einvernehmen mit Regisseur Sam Mendes. Sandra Bullock war die (vorerst) letzte in dieser traurigen Aneinanderreihung gescheiterter Beziehungen; den Schlagzeilen für ihren Oscar in 2010 für “Blind Side – Die große Chance” folgten sogleich die ihrer gescheiterten Ehe mit Jesse James.
Nicht nur vor diesem Hintergrund immer wieder schön, wenn man durch die Verleihung an Meryl Streep oder Helen Mirren eine Unterbrechung in dieser fluch -und segensreichen Ereigniskette erfährt.
Die Prognosen in der Kategorie “Best Supporting Actress” hingegen fallen um ein Vielfaches besser aus.

But one could also announce: “And those whose marriage is going to end with a high probability within the next 24 months, is ….”
Looking at the list of Oscar winners for Best Actress in retrospect to 1990, we can state that there is a significantly high number of separations and divorces.

Halle Berry’s great acting performance (“Monster’s Ball”) was honored with the highest of all acting prizes in 2002 – she was divorced in 2003 by Eric Benet. Charlize Theron’s relationship with Stuart Townsend was surviving her Oscar in 2004 for “Monster” until 2010, this is making this relationship a top performer. The Oscar for “Walk the Line” in 2006 heralded the other hand, also the end of Reese Witherspoon’s marriage to Ryan Philippe who was divorced in 2007. Kate Winslet followed this tradition in 2009 (“The Reader”) and terminated their marriage by mutual agreement with Director Sam Mendes. Sandra Bullock was the (now) last one in this line of sad juxtaposition relationships; the headlines for her Oscar in 2010 for “Blindside – The Great Opportunity” followed immediately by their failed marriage with Jesse James.
Not only against this background always nice when you learn through the award of Meryl Streep or Helen Mirren in a disruption of this curse and blessed chain of events.
The forecasts in the category “Best Supporting Actress,” however, are much better by far.
Ah, nicely put: three is a crowd. It certainly was for these couples. But I like to look up at the exceptions, like Meryl and Helen. Oh, Julia’s Valentino dress, one of the most beautiful gowns that have seen the spotlight of the red carpet. And Hilary Swank’s daring dress, with the very low-cut back, maybe a little too daring? But I’ve always loved a long-sleeved, backless gown. xo

Wow! I had never noticed the Oscar ‘curse’! Although one can only imagine the pressure and competition it must put on a couple…I had practically forgotten Julia Roberts went out with Benjamin Bratt (whom I watched on ‘Private Practice’ last night :) )!

It is very true, and don’t forget the epic win of James Cameron for Titanic (that Oscar year just seemed to much more monumental than this year) and his subsequent split with his wife, who apparently he was cheating on the same day. I don’t think it’s just the actors who have the curse!
