Chesley McLaren & Demoiselle

04m.jpg

I absolutely LOVE this picture!!!

“Illustrator, author, mannequin maker. Chesley McLaren has added another job description to her already formidable CV: designer. Her new line began with a muslin-and-organza smock coat she whipped up to wear while on assignment with Louis Vuitton and Vanity Fair in Paris. People admired it, and Demoiselle was born.

Twenty pieces strong, the collection features coats, dresses, and fitted knickers. Of course, this new career path didn’t happen overnight. McLaren spent 14 years on Seventh Avenue before picking up the pen. The best compliment she’s yet received?

That the clothes look like her illustrations come to life.”

Chloe Sevigny’s Opening Ceremony

Ok. Chloe Sevigny is into world of fashion – and decided that it’s not enough to be a fashion icon and is following the trend to create a fashion line on her own again (after her thing with Tara Subkoff and the Imitation of Christ) – Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony.

Today it’s not enough to be good, very good, the best in one main thing like acting or modelling – it’s necessary to start a label in fashion on your own. It’s just like Will Smith – acting, singing, dancing – did he something in fashion? P Diddy – singing, producing, acting (Monster’s Ball) and – an own fashion label. Jennifer Lopez – singing, dancing, acting – and a label on her own. Sienna Miller – acting (yes, that’s acting), modelling – and again: a label. Kate Moss – modelling, singing – and the Topshop thing.

Please have a look at the “highlights” of Chloe’s collection – and tell me what you’re thinking about – frankly!
My first impression was: She is kidding, isn’t she?

Alessandra Facchinetti at VALENTINO

valentinoalessandra_Kopie.jpg

“One day after Valentino Garavani announced his retirement from fashion, the Valentino Fashion Group (VFG) made known the name of his successor – Alessandra Facchinetti.

The former designer of Gucci women’s ready-to-wear, Facchinetti is a highly experienced talent who has won recent critical acclaim for her designs for Moncler. Facchinetti, who was spotted recently working at Valentino’s Rome headquarters, will have the title of creative director of Valentino women’s wear collections.

As reported, Valentino will retire in early 2008, after staging his last prêt-a-porter show in October and his final haute couture collection in January – both in Paris. The couture show will thus bring down the curtain a 45-year career during which Valentino dressed Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren and Jacqueline Onassis, Audrey Hepburn and Babe Paley….”

Congratulations to Ralph Lauren!!

“Ralph Lauren celebrated his 40th anniversary as the ‘king’ of American fashion with a My Fair Lady fantasy in New York’s Central Park at the weekend.

The designer took over the historic Conservatory Garden for the presentation of his spring/summer 2008 fashion show and a black tie gala dinner under the stars.

Guests included the actors Robert De Niro and Dustin Hoffman, the Mayor of New York Michael Bloomberg, Lauren Bush, the talk show host Barbara Walters, the homemaker-tycoon Martha Stewart, Sarah Jessica Parker and her husband Matthew Broderick and fellow American designers including Donna Karan, Vera Wang and Carolina Herrera.

“He’s as American as Coca-Cola, “ said the designer Diane Von Furstenberg of the man who started his business career by designing ties in the Bronx and now heads one of the world’s most successful fashion and lifestyle companies, valued in excess of US$1 billion.

The fashion show was staged in a giant marquee against a painted backdrop which represented Royal Ascot Opening Day at the turn of the century….”

Evan Rachel Wood – Fashions new edge

“Beneath Evan Rachel Wood’s all-American, uncomplicated beauty lives a semi-suppressed style rebel. “It sometimes throws people off,” says the 19-year-old. “I keep the simple blonde look because of my job, but if I weren’t acting, I’d have short black hair like Natalie Portman in The Professional.”

Wood first became known as every parent’s nightmare, the good teen headed for bad in Thirteen, and her next role is another transformation from sweet to radicalized: She’s the star of Across the Universe (opening in New York on September 14), Julie Taymor’s Beatles-based movie musical set in the sixties. As Lucy, Wood goes from high-school prom queen to Greenwich Village hippie, and hits all the era’s fashions—an experience that prompted Wood to seek out her own vintage looks. “I ended up buying a couple of sixties prom dresses and some white heels to go with them,” she says. “I’ll bust them out every now and then. It gets so boring to be confined to one thing.” …..”
