RACHEL ZOE’S NEW BOOK “FROM A TO ZOE”

Being Rachel Zoe

rachel_zoe.jpg“It was pouring rain in Paris in early July, and Rachel Zoe was late for the 11:30 a.m. Chanel haute couture presentation. “Oh, I shouldn’t say who my favorite is,” Zoe told me the day before the show. “So many of the designers are my friends. They all want to get their clothes on my clients.” Still, for Zoe, a Hollywood stylist who has dressed stars like Lindsay Lohan, Cameron Diaz and Keira Knightley, Chanel’s red-carpet ball gowns would have been a top priority of the couture calendar. And yet there she was, stuck in traffic in her chauffeured Mercedes sedan, an hour away from the Chanel show, which was to be held at a former palace in St.-Cloud, a suburb of Paris.

As always, Zoe (pronounced ZOH) was dressed for the designer she was viewing. She was wearing a bright pink nubby wool Chanel jacket, black pants and her usual five-inch platform open-toed shoes. All the Zoe trademarks were in place: she was very tan; her long blond hair was carefully styled to look carefree; there were ropes of gold chains around her neck and stacks of diamond bangles on her wrists; and enormous (Chanel) sunglasses nearly obscured her face. jeeperscreepers.jpg Even wearing high heels, she is short and stick-thin, but Zoe, who is 36, does not seem fragile. The masses of jewelry, the outsize sunglasses, the whole noisy, ’70s-inspired look add up to a hectic, ostentatious, theatrical sort of glamour.

It’s the look she has duplicated on her clients, making the so-called Zoe-bots paparazzi favorites, as well as walking advertisements for a host of top designers. A cross-pollinator of the worlds of Hollywood celebrities, high fashion and tabloid magazines, Zoe has become a powerful image broker, a conduit to the ever-more lucrative intersection of commerce, style and fame. Early in her career, in 1996, she worked as a stylist at YM magazine, dressing such teenage pop stars as Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson, girls who were young enough to be molded and popular enough to be influential.

Around the same time, magazines like Us Weekly began inventing their own cadre of celebrities, like Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. They had no discernible accomplishments or talent, but they did seem to go out a lot, and they thrived under the flash of the paparazzi. Magazines like Us constructed provocative narratives around them — their romantic woes, their drug problems — and Zoe, who began working with Richie in 2003 when she was viewed only as Hilton’s plump sidekick, saw an opportunity. “Nicole is now what people refer to as the big thing that happened,” Zoe told me in Paris. “Everything went from nowhere to everywhere. Nicole was about creating a look. Because of her fashion sense, which was really my fashion sense, she became famous. It was a huge moment: Nicole became a style icon without being a star.”

DAISY LOWE IS THE NEW GLAMOURELLA No1!!!

At this point I must admit:

Forget about Kate. Forget about Irina. And of course forget about Agyness.

DAISY LOWE WILL BECOME THE GREATEST ROCKET BABE!

This babe is more hot and more glam and more rockstar like all the other model babes will ever be.

And she is only 18!!!

Daisy is the daughter of Pearl Lowe and Gavin Rossdale, the husband of Gwen Stefani.

If you don’t believe me – let the pictures speak for themself – ID Magazine:

“The Daisy chain
She has impeccable rock’n'roll heritage, but upcoming model Daisy Lowe is causing a stir of her own

In the world of fashion, the Brits have a knack for turning out models with character well-bred toffs such as Jasmine Guinness and Stella Tenant, supermodels who have worked their way out of Croydon (Kate) or Streatham (Naomi), and, most recently, rock’n'roll heiresses such as Leah Wood, Lizzie Jagger and Daisy Lowe, the last of whom is causing a real stir.

At her agency in Camden Town, London, 18-year-old Lowe looks totally confident and at ease. Her parents, Pearl Lowe (Britpop singer-turned-fashion-designer) and Gavin Rossdale (of Bush fame, now married to Gwen Stefani) plus stepfather Danny Goffey (the drummer in Supergrass) all give her impressive rock’n'roll credentials. There’s no doubting that this kind of heritage may have helped to put her in the spotlight, but the talent scout who first noticed her in Camden, aged 15, didn’t have a clue who her parents were.

Lowe is more of a cool indie chick than a primped and preened, stick-thin mannequin. But her fresh-faced beauty, huge almond eyes and Chrissie Hynde hair have sent well-respected photographers scrambling to capture her look.

Yet for all that, Lowe remains incredibly down-to-earth: by way of exercise, now that she’s “almost a model”, she plays football in the park with her friends, and she retains a refreshing excitement for what lies ahead.

“I did my first modelling job at two,” recalls Lowe, “and a couple of other shoots aged 12 and 14. But it was never something I always wanted to do.” To be spotted so young and then fast-tracked to campaigns and fashion shoots for major glossies by the age of 18 makes you wonder how she stays so grounded. “After a shoot, you move on to the next job so quickly, you don’t really get a chance to think about it. I don’t surround myself with fashion people. My boyfriend’s a musician [in the Blondelles], and I still hang out with my school friends. School wasn’t really for me. But all the same I freaked out when I left, as I had been doing really well [studying chemistry, maths, economics and art at A level]. But my best friend, who’s still there and who’s disgustingly intelligent, calls me saying, ‘Have you read a book today? You’ve got to keep your mind active,’ and I agree. I like using my brain and being creative. I read regularly, write as often as possible, and try to keep up with my art.”

On top of all this, Lowe is a DJ, having recently played at the Calvin Klein fragrance launch, and she’s designing a capsule diffusion line for her mother’s fashion label (stocked at Liberty, Neiman Marcus and Saks). With so many strings to her bow, somehow it seems that modelling is unlikely to be her final chosen career, but for the moment she’s enjoying what it has to offer.

“I’ve met such amazing creative people and seen places I would never normally have seen. My first proper shoot a year ago was in Savannah, Georgia, and I’ve just done a shoot for W magazine, in New Jersey.”

With two recent shoots in Italian Vogue, plus glossy reportage shots of her 18th birthday party set to appear in British Vogue, it seems likely that this cool Brit may have to put her other activities on hold for a while to concentrate on her blossoming modelling career. “But that’s OK,” she says.”I can do the rest later.” ”

Slim jeans + coat by twenty8twelve

To be honest: I wasn’t very keen on the designs of Savannah + Sienna Miller’s label “twenty8twelve”…

But I was totally impressed by this coat, the little dress and by this black slim pair of jeans called Zelda.

I’ve purchased the pair of jeans at My Theresa yesterday – let’s see how it works ;)
